


There will be 15 candidates for the five spots on the Winneshiek County Board this year. Wednesday's filing deadline passed with all five races having contests.
In District #1, Republicans Dean Darling and Dennis Karlsbroten will face off in the June primary, with the winner facing incumbent Democrat Bill Ibanez in November.
In District #2, three Republicans will square off in the June primary--Floyd Ashbacher, Wayne Jordahl and Ron Onsager. The winner will face independent John Franzen and Democrat Rachel Vagts in the fall.
In District #3, Democrat Dean Thompson filed nomination papers Wednesday to face incumbent Republican Les Askelson in the fall election.
In District #4, Democrat Clark Goltz also filed nomination papers Wednesday and will face incumbent Republican John LOgsdon in the fall.
Finally, in District #5, Republicans Gordon Hunter and incumbent Lonnie Pierce will run in the June primary, with the winner facing Democrat Mark Kuhn in November.
