The chair of the City of Decorah's Economic Development and Betterment Committee, Carolyn Corbin, is inviting members of the public to join a group that is investigating city-wide curbside solid-waste and recycling. The first meeting will be Monday April 2, 6:30 at the City Council chambers.
"I am interested in finding ways that more fairly offer solid-waste options for our residents. For example right now we do not have a pay as you go so residents pay the same whether they generate a lot of waste or just a little. A curbside- recycling program should be designed to benefit everyone: residents, the recycling center, the landfill, and haulers." We began our research by touring the county's recycling center. The county knows that we plan to work hand-in-hand with the recycling center to make the smartest possible decisions," states Corbin.
Anyone interested in joining the solid-waste advisory committee can contact Carolyn Corbin, the Mayor, the City Clerk, or City Administrator. Contacts for all can be found at www.decorahia.org.
