Winneshiek County supervisors have unanimously approved a 2012-2013 county budget that calls for collecting $408,000 more in local property taxes, but will decrease mill rates by one cent per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
Supervisors praised the work of county officials in putting together the budget, which calls for $19.5 million in total spending and $20.2 million in total revenues. Mental health and developmental disabilities program CPC Jan Heikes announced Monday that action by the state legislature could reduce the MH/DD levy in Winneshiek County by another two or three cents.
Supervisor John Logsdon warned of possible budget cuts being necessary in future years, but said "it was a good year" this year for the budget.
