Mechanical failure being blamed for two-vehicle crash

Decorah Police say 57-year-old Allen Tackman's truck suffered a mechanical problem Monday afternoon as it was driving down Franklin Street--causing the truck to crash into a parked car and then into a mailbox on Mill Street.

The parked car--which was owned by 26-year-old Jason Holthaus of Decorah--suffered $1,600 in damages, while the mailbox had $50 in damages.  Tackman's truck did not have any damage and he was not injured.
