The Decorah City Council has taken the first step towards the reconstruction of Short Street.
Council members Monday night unanimously approved a Preliminary Resolution for the project. The move is largely a procedural one, setting in motion the necessity of doing the street project, but not specifying particulars.
Neighboring property owners along Short Street have opposed a proposal to widen the street to three lanes. City council members have asked City Engineer Lindsay Erdman to also draw up a proposal for a two-lane street.
City council members say they will hold another public hearing on the project once Erdman completes the second proposal.
