


(Ron, a decorahnews.com reader, sent in the following e-mail in response to our news story that the City of Decorah and Winneshiek County are applying for $8 million in federal funds that would require $6 million in matching local funds to build additional bike lanes and trails):
If the city and county governments have money to allocate for bike trails, they need to do a better job of fixing the roads. Nothing against bike trails, but I hear talk of adding a 10 cents a gallon gas tax. If we are going to build bike trails, we may need some evidence that they can pay for themselves by generating revenue from taxes paid by tourists.
