What's the best way to keep black locust trees under control?
The Decorah Parks and Recreation Board will discuss that issue when it meets at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Decorah City Hall. The trees have gotten to be a bit of a problem in the Decorah Prairie.
That's not unsual. Black locust commonly grow occurs in disturbed habitats like pastures, old fields--and prairies. Because dense stands of black locust shade out most understory vegetation, such tree groves can be detrimental to native vegetation. That's the concern of Decorah Park-Rec officials, so the issue will be discuss Thursday night.
