Winneshiek County supervisors have unanimously approved a new map of county supervisor district boundaries in the county.
The redistricting plan endorsed by the commission assigns Decorah area residents to four different supervisor districts. Decorah City Clerk Wanda Hemesath said the plan "meets all the criteria" set up by the State of Iowa. "We all think it's a good plan," she said of the five members of the Temporary Redistricting Commission.
Winneshiek County Board Chair Les Askelson agreed, telling the Commission members "you did a very good job." One of the benefits of the new map for the county is that the number of voting precincts will be reduced to 11, which will save the county some money from the cost of holding elections.
The new county supervisor district boundaries will be be sent to state officials in Des Moines. If the state approves the redistricting plan, the new boundaries will be used starting January 15th of 2012.
