Lansing Bridge is closed to traffic

Decorah motorists heading to La Crosse will have to travel through Caledonia instead of through Lansing.

The Highway 9 Mississippi River Bridge has been closed to traffic in Lansing.  The Iowa Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation say emergency maintenance will be conducted on the bridge.  They did not disclose what problems were discovered with the bridge, other than that there had been "structural damage" discovered.

The bridge will be closed until further notice.  More than 2,000 vehicles travel across the bridge each day.

Its not the first time the bridge has been closed. The bridge was closed twice last year after it was twice hit by barges traveling on the Mississippi River.
