County board approves redistricting plan

Winneshiek County supervisors voted 3-1 Monday in favor of a redistricting plan developed by the Temporary Redistricting Commission.

The new county supervisor district boundaries will be used starting January 15th of 2012.

The supervisors took the action after hearing an opinion from County Attorney Andy Van Der Maaten, who told the county board "things were done correctly."

Supervisor Bill Ibanez, who had first questioned the process, was the lone negative vote.  He said "I don't think (the map) is clean."  But County Board Chair Les Askelson told the board "the committee did their task."

The county redistricting plan next will go before a public hearing on Monday, August 22nd, at the Courthouse.
