Winneshiek Medical Center has a new hospitalist.
Dr. Greg Tjossem has been named to the position, replacing Dr. Brian Dougan.
The hospitalist program was started a year and a half ago by Winneshiek Medical Center as a way to have a physician who cares for hospitalized patients in place of the patient's primary-care physician.
The position is seen both as a way to provide better care to hospital patients and as a way to free physicians from having to take time away from their clinic schedules to visit their patients in the hospital.
