July was HOT in Decorah!

You won't be surprised to learn that temperatures were above average in Decorah in July.

In fact, Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says this July ranked 7th hottest of 115 Julys for which temperature records have been kept.  The average temperature of 76.7 degrees was 4.3 degrees hotter than average.

While several records were set during July, it might not be the records you think were set.  There were three days in which the minimum temperature set a record--80 degrees on July 1st, 78 degrees on July 18th and 77 degrees on July 19th.  There was a total of nine days in which the low temperature was 70 degrees or more.  Overall for the month, the minimum temperature averaged 66.4 degrees--an all-time record for July.

Bernatz says we received 3.2 inches of rain in July, which was less than normal.  But Decorah still has a precipitation excess of 3.2 inches over the last 12 months.
