Decorah Police say 30-year-old Jennifer Benda of Waukon was driving east on Highway 9 Tuesday morning when she came upon a bus and a Northeast Iowa Transit vehicle that were stopped in the left lane to make a turn. Benda swerved onto the shoulder of the highway, but a car behind her driven by 27-year-old Jonathon Murillo of Decorah also had to leave the roadway on go onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the two vehicles--and it struck the rear of Benda's vehicle and slid into a ditch.
Murillo's car suffered $3,000 in damages. Benda's van suffered just $500 in damages, but she drove to the hospital to get treatment for minor neck pain. Neither driver was ticketed..
