


Miranda Schnitzler, the 16-year-old daughter of Randy and Rhonda Schnitzler of Decorah, has been named the 2011 Winneshiek County Fair Queen. She was selected Tuesday night from a field of nine queen candidates.
Miranda has been in 4-H for seven years and shows beef and swine at the fair. She is involved in FFA in Decorah. In school, she plays volleyball and is a wrestling cheerleader. She is in choir and is part of the food and fitness team at DHS. She is working for a day-care center and also works at Americana Grill. She enjoys spending time with friends, being outdoors, working with her animals and also helping on the farm.
Sarah Hammel, the 18-year-old daughter of Rich and Barb Hammel of Decorah, was selected Fair Princess.
Active in 4-H, she has had state fair exhibits and went on to compete in the State Fair Share-The-Fun division. She has been very involved in vocal music at Decorah High School. She placed second in the NATS Vocal Competition, and she earned three top Division I ratings and two "best of concert" awards for solos in district solo and ensemble contests. She was in All-State Chorus, Dorian, NEIC Honor Choir, Opus Honors Choir and UNI Honors Choir. She participated in high school music and variety shows at DHS. She earned All-State honors in musical theatre and one-act play at large group speech contest. She also participated in individual speech contest. She was also active in cross-country, track, National Honor Society and Decorah Art Club.
