Some patients of Winneshiek Medical Center have been complaining to hospital officials about what they feel are difficult to understand invoices from the hospital.
Winneshiek Medical Center officials are promising changes. Chief Financial Officer Lynn Luloff says future statements will have categories for each charge, such as "laboratory," "radiology," or "pharmacy." Currently, the invoices might just read "hospital visit."
WMC Board of Trustees member Arlene Houlihan is applauding the changes. "The public really wants it," she says. Houlihan says people have been talking with her about their unhappiness with trying to understand the current billing system, complaining that it is often difficult to determine what they are being charged for.
Luloff says hospital officials are working with their bill software vendor to put more information onto future invoices.
