Organizers of the annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Winneshiek County say they now have a final figure for the fundraiser. The event brought in over $33,000 to support the American Cancer Society--around $1,000 less than 2010's fundraiser.
Money from the fundraiser will go toward cancer research, prevention, early detection, and patient support.
More than 100 Winneshiek County residents each year get a cancer diagnosis. The American Cancer Society has led the war on cancer since 1913.
