A phone call from a Ridgeway business has led to the arrest of a Florida man on check forgery charges.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says they received a phone call Saturday morning alerting them to the presence of an individual wanted throughout Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota for allegedly passing forged checks written on a Comdata Trucking account.
The Sheriff's Department, Decorah Police and Iowa State Patrol were able to locate the individual based on the information given in the phone call. 52-year-old Michael Hume of Umatilla, Florida has been charged with forgery, which is a Class D felony. He also faces a charge of driving with a suspended Florida license.
Hume appeared in Magistrate Court, where bond was set at $10,000 cash.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says its investigation is continuing, with assistance from "multiple law enforcement agencies."
