Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum has opened a new exhibit--"The Hjelles of Siewers Springs." The collection of photographs, which will be on display through July 2nd, documents a Norwegian immigrant family and their Decorah legacy.
Drawing from hundreds of letters dated from 1867-1939, photos, negatives, postcards, and scrapbooks, the exhibition is an overview of the Hjelle family history and homestead.
The Hjelle family has been a part of the Decorah community for over 100 years. In 1901 John and his wife Anne Hjelle bought a farm near Siewers Springs.
