COMMENT: Thanks, Mona!

Everyone knew it was a news story when Mona Nelson decided to step down after 15 years of service on the Decorah Community School Board, including 9 years as school board chair from 2001-2010.  I recently interviewed Nelson to gather a sense of just why this board resignation qualifies as a headline story.

When interviewing Nelson, the discussion always seemed to come back to a focus on learning. Often, exit comments from those in public office are seen as mere platitudes related to what "should be said." I cover meetings of the Decorah Community School Board.  So I can validate that a focus on learning is central to virtually every meeting of the board.

Thanks to the board for that focus, and certainly to Mona Nelson for the role she has played to that end.
