A Luther College senior from Columbia, William Montoya, has been presented the Jenson Medal--the college's award to an outstanding senior, selected by the graduating class, who best demonstrates the ideals of Luther College through service to students and the college community.
Montoya is a co-founder of I-ImpactNow, a not-for-profit fund-raising organization created by Luther students and dedicated to breaking the cycle of hunger. I-Impact Now has done fundraising for an irrigation system in Ethiopia that will water crops on small farms and organize a cooperative of 50 farmers to unify the community.
He is also a co-founder of the Northeast Iowa Peace and Justice Center, a community initiative affiliated with the ministries of the Decorah Area Faith Coalition and other organizations interested in peace and justice.
