The Decorah City Council has approved a package of pay raises for city department heads and other supervisors. The plan calls for a 2.37 percent increases in wages.
However, the package approved Monday night also calls for the employees to pay a greater share of the cost of health insurance--5 percent of the premium for single individuals and 10 percent of the premium for family plans. In addition the employees will pay higher co-payments.
Dropped from the proposal was a change in the salary schedule for supervisory positions--a change that would have added another three percent in raises.
The revised package passed 6-1 Monday night, with city council member Paul Wanless, who had criticized the previous package as being too generous, voting against the revised package as well.
