Wilhelm: Closing Iowa Workforce offices is bad for business, bad for Iowa

State Senator Mary Jo Wilhelm of Cresco is strongly critical of Governor Terry Branstad's plans to close 39 Iowa Workforce offices across the state.

"This would be a bad move, making the process of searching for a job even more difficult for the more than 100,000 Iowans looking for work," says Wilhelm.

Most of the offices the governor wants to close are in rural areas. In fact, some communities with the highest unemployment rates would lose their offices.

Concludes Wilhelm," We shouldn't be creating more barriers between Iowa workers looking for jobs and businesses looking to hire. The Governor's plan won't work if we want to continue our state's recovery from the national recession."
