The City of Decorah will be tackling some big projects during the 2012 fiscal year, but that won't mean an increase to the city's mill rate.
The Decorah City Council Wednesday night ended a six-hour long budget work session by recommending a $12,284,006 budget for next year. That's more than $800,000 in spending higher that this year, due largely to work on the Trout Run Trail (including a new bridge) and on the levee recertification. But additional outside funding sources means property tax collections will go up by a total of $68,000 and the mill rate will stay the same at $12.54 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
The Decorah City Council now will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget at 7:45 p.m. on March 7th at City Hall.
