The funds collected several years ago from private contributions remain designated in an "activities account" of the Decorah Community Schools. According to Adam Riley, associate principal, there was about $5,000 in contributions at that time, but the account has grown to about $7,000 with some additional money added via student fundraisers, etc.
The tennis court project is a 50/50 split between the school district and the City of Decorah. The total estimated cost of the project was about $250,000 and Riley is optimistic that with the current bidding environment the cost will remain about the same.
