The Iowa Department of Transportation on Tuesday afternoon approved a $750,000 grant to the City of Decorah to help build the Trout Run Trail's bridge across Highway 9.
The grant was the largest grant approved Tuesday by Iowa Transportation Commission. More than $5.1 million in total funding was awarded to 14 statewide Transportation Enhancement program projects. The Commission also approved a $605,000 grant to the Clayton County Conservation Board for the Turkey River Recreational Corridor Trail.
The statewide Transportation Enhancement program was created with federal funds in 1991 to support projects in three categories: trail and bicycle facilities; scenic and environmental; and historic and archaeological. Funding is available to cities, counties, state agencies, and nonprofit organizations through an annual application-based program.
