The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors has officially accepted a $60,000 federal grant that will pay for half of the cost of developing a comprehensive disaster prevention plan. The CDBG grant will enable Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission to put together a hazard analysis, then to create a recommendation for a future land use map. The move is seen as a way to prevent future flooding. The document will also discuss watershed management and will outline permitted uses for property in the county.
UERPC's Larry Leliefeld says a series of public informational meetings about the comprehensive plan will be held beginning in January.
