The offending picture

How embarrassing!  decorahnews.com always tries to be 100 percent accurate in the news stories it posts.  Who knew that our most embarrassing mistake in months would come because we were not sufficiently familiar with the comic strip "Peanuts"?

After Friday night's Holiday Parade in Decorah, we posted a picture of the float created by Bruening Rock Products, and said in a caption that it had won first place in the parade.

Now parade officials have informed us that they don't hand out awards to floats--and that the first place ribbon was something recreated from the "Peanuts" comic strips, which any school kid would have known.

Good grief!  We're embarrassed by this mistake.  Not as embarrassed as we would have been if we tried to kick a football and then it got pulled away at the last second, but pretty embarrassed nonetheless.
