Volunteers sought for "Decorah Reads!"

16 volunteers are being sought for a November  session of Decorah Reads!, a program that encourages kids to develop a love of reading.  

The program matches adult volunteers with 7th grade students for three book discussion meetings.  Volunteers make a commitment to attend all three meetings in the chosen session.

Students choose a fiction book to read and adult volunteers find their student match by selecting a book from the students' list of titles.  As a pair, the volunteer and student both read the book and meet three times to discuss it.

Through the Decorah Reads! program students learn about discussing a book with another person and they also receive encouragement from their adult partner.  Adult volunteers have the opportunity to revisit childhood favorites and to nourish their partners' enjoyment of reading.

For the November session, adults may pick books up at the Decorah Public Library beginning Tuesday, November 2nd.  Meeting dates include Tuesday, November 9th; Tuesday, November 16th and Tuesday, November 23rd.  The first two meetings will be held at Decorah Public Library from 8:55 a.m. until 9:20 a.m.  The final meeting (complete with breakfast treats) will take place from 8:55 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Decorah Middle School.
