Trial information has been filed in the case of 69-year-old Leslie Peterson, accused of 31 serious misdemeanors for allegedly installing a camera in the women's shower at the Kendallville campground.
The documents state that the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls Saturday evening, July 3rd, from the Kendallville campground. When two deputies arrived at the scene, they were told that Peterson had taken down the camera, but a camper then took back the camera from Peterson. When deputies went to Peterson's trailer and talked with him, he allegedly showed them a receiver that got a video picture from the women's shower. Peterson then told the deputies he had had the system in operation since 2007.
The deputies took statements from 31 women at the campground--15 adults and 16 juveniles--who said they had taken showers at the campground from Wednesday, June 30th, through Saturday, July 3rd. The women--whose names were not disclosed in order to maintain their privacy--gave written statements to the sheriff's deputies.
Peterson remains free of a $15,000 bond. Arraignment on the charges has been set for August 3rd, while a trial has been scheduled for 9:00 a.m. September 29th.
