The City of Decorah Street Department has given a boost to the chances that a major retailer will open in the former Wal-Mart building. The crews late last week cut down trees that had been blocking the view of the building from Highway 9.
Old Wal-Mart building owner Scott Farver said he has a retailer who is interested in leasing space in the building, but is hedging because of its concern about trees.
The trees in question were on State of Iowa highway right-of-way. However, City of Decorah crews cut down the trees.
Farver says he will now contact the retailer again and show them pictures of the improved view of the building.
