Winneshiek County Engineer Lee Bjerke is warning property owners not to plant crops in the right-of-ways of county highways.
In a letter to the public Bjerke reminds everyone that it is illegal to row crop public right-of-way. Says Bjerke, "If you plant in the right-of-way, we will mow it down. We have sent letters over the past few years to inform those who were unaware of the error they have made by cropping the right-of-way. If you think you may be one of these offenders, give us a call right away. Don't let it come to us mowing it down."
Bjerke's comments are included in a long public letter about what can and cannot be done in public right-of-ways. For the complete text of the letter, visit our "Opinion" section.
