The Winneshiek Medical Center diabetes self-management education program has been awarded the prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for quality diabetes self-management education.

Lead by nurse and certified diabetes educator Nancy Gilson and registered clinical dietitian Angie Kerndt, the Winneshiek Medical Center diabetes education program offers guidance on self-managing type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Gilson says, "When patients successfully manage diabetes, they decrease their risk for heart attack and stroke, blindness, and other complications.  They may also decrease their chances of being hospitalized, which can have a direct impact on their pocket book."  She adds, "We offer our patients education, tools and techniques that, along with the guidance of their health care provider, make a positive impact on their quality of life now and for years to come."
