Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum has won reaccreditation from the American Association of Museums for the third consecutive time.   The award means the museum has won accreditation back to 1971.

Vesterheim's Executive Director Board Director Sonja Peterson said, "Receiving our reaccreditation is wonderful news, and a credit to the entire staff for their professional and capable stewardship on behalf of the museum."

Accreditation is a widely recognized seal of approval that brings national recognition to American museums, regardless of size or location.  According to the latest count, there are 17,500 museums in the United States. Of those, only four percent, or 776 museums, have been accredited by the AAM.

Vesterheim submitted its application for reaccreditation in November of 2007.  AAM representatives paid a visit to Vesterheim in February of 2009 as part of the review process.
