


The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing at noon on Monday regarding the proposed 2010-2011 budget, then passed the proposed budget after that hearing.
The mill rate for rural Winneshiek County residents will be $8.84 per $1,000 of assessed valuation—the same rate as this year. The mill rate for city residents will be $7.20 per $1,000 of assessed valuation—a small decrease from this year.
However, the spending plan calls for $7.3 million in property taxes to be levied—an increase of $1.4 million from this year. Overall spending wll increase from this year's total of $18.5 million to a projected $20.3 million. The increases are mainly funded by higher property values within Winneshiek County.
