For the past three weeks the drinking fountains at Carrie Lee Elementary School in Decorah have been shut off. That's because testing of the water at the school has found some sediment in it.
There has been no bacteria found in the drinking water, so it's only the drinking water that has been shut off at the school. But the sediment at times turned the water yellow or green, so the drinking fountains have been shut off.
School officials have sent samples of the water to the State Lab in Des Moines. That was 22 days ago. Superintendent Mike Haluska says school officials told the State Lab to "put a rush on it." Haluska says it's possible the lab results will be issued later this week.
In the meantime the school district is providing drinking water to students, teachers and staff at Carrie Lee. Haluska says the school district is "baffled" by the problem, but it's doing everything it can to make life livable at the school until lab results are available.
