


The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department responded to two separate traffic accidents on Saturday.
24-year-old Fabian Ortiz of Postville was injured around 3:30 Saturday morning when he lost control of his car on Highway 52 on the east end of Ossian. The car entered a ditch and rolled several times. Ortiz was taken to Winneshiek Medical Center and then transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Charges are pending in the accident.
At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, 34-year-old Nathan Hageman of Fort Atkinson allegedly crossed the center line on Highway 150 6 miles south of Calmar. 40-year-old Wayne Praska of Cresco, who was driving in the opposite direction, swerved to avoid hitting Hageman's car head-on. The two cars side swiped.
Hageman was ticketed for third offense drunk driving, possession of a controlled substance, and driving without insurance. A passenger in his car, 39-year-old Angela Praska, was taken to Winneshiek Medical Center.
