Luther College junior Elsa Mc Cargar from Decorah has been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. The scholarship awards from $3,500 to $5,000 to undergraduate students to help pay the costs of studying abroad.

McCargar, the daughter of Steve McCargar and Heidi Swets of Decorah, is a 2007 graduate of Decorah High School. She is an environmental studies major at Luther.

She will study at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo under the Butler Institute for Study Abroad in Argentina.

The scholarship is named after Benjamin Arthur Gillman, a New York congressman from 1973-2003. The scholarship provides support for students with financial need, including those of diverse backgrounds and those traveling to non-traditional study abroad destinations.
