January is National Mentoring Month--a fact recognized by the Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors on Monday. The county board signed a proclamation saponsored by Building Bridges Through Mentoring, Winneshiek County's community-based mentoring program. 22 Winneshiek County kids now have an adult mentor because of the program.
A crowd of mentors, mentees and other community supporters attend the proclamation signing at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the courthouse.
The ceremony was just one way the month is being observed. The Decorah Public Library has a display about mentoring, as will the libraries in Calmar, Ossian and other area communities.
A mentoring program dinner will be held Sunday, January 24th, at the Country Inn on Highway 9 in Decorah.
