Officials at the Decorah Clinic at Winneshiek Medical Center are reminding the public it's not too late to get your flu shot. The clinic says it has a good supply of seasonal flu vaccines available.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu causes more than 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths each year in the United States. The flu virus is always present in our environment, but its peak times are between September and late March. Winneshiek Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kurt Carlson says the clinic and hospital so far have seen virtually no seasonal influenza cases. However, receiving the seasonal flu vaccine at this time will provide increased immunity to seasonal influenza.
Walk-ins are welcome or you can make an appointment at Decorah Clinic at Winneshiek Medical Center by calling (563) 382.2911. The influenza vaccine is covered by Medicare B. Seniors over 65 should bring their card to the clinic to qualify for this benefit.
