City council approves just one year permit for River City Paving office

The Decorah City Council voted Monday night to allow a temporary office to be built by River City Paving at 1111 Highway 9 East. But the city council's approval came for just one year instead of two years.

City council member Rachel Vagts said she had reservations about issuing a permit for a temporary structure, worrying about the precedent it could set. Three other city council members agreed with Vagts and rejected a proposal to authorize the temporary building for two years. Instead Mathy Construction will be required to return to the city council if it wants to use the temporary office for more than 12 months.
