Farmland values in Winneshiek County and NE Iowa have gone up

A report from Iowa State University concludes that favorable interest rates and government payments have led to higher farm land values in NE Iowa.

A report by Iowa State Extension economist Wendong Zhang concluded that the statewide average value per acre of farmland in Iowa is now $7,559--up from $7,432 in 2019.   Zhang's report says farmland values were falling in the spring, but government programs helped the farm economy to rebound--even in the face of the destructive derecho which hit many counties this summer.  Corn and soybean prices peaked in November, driving the farmland price increase.

The ISU Extension report places the value of an average acre of Winneshiek County farmland at $7,065--a $401 increase from last year.  Farmland was valued at $8,088 in Fayette County, $7,602 in Chickasaw County, $6,965 in Howard County, $6,532 in Clayton County and $5,378 in Allamakee County.
