Winneshiek County Public Health Director Krista Vande Brink Tuesday urged members of the Decorah Rotary Club to keep taking steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In case anyone is still skeptical about the impact of COVID-19, she presented a statistic which shows the epidemic is still in full force: more than half of all COVID-19 cases in Winneshiek County have occurred since November 1st.

In fact, the Iowa Department of Public Health says 1,304 residents of Winneshiek County have tested positive for COVID-19 as of December 22nd.  On November 1st, that figure was 557 residents--meaning 58 percent of all COVID-19 cases in Winneshiek County have occurred since November 1st.

There were 430 cases of COVID-19 in Winneshiek County in November and 317 cases so far in December--with nine days left in the month.  Vanden Brink told Rotary Club members she understands everyone is suffering from burnout, but it's still important to take steps to prevent the spread of the disease.
