Luther College is announcing an extension of online learning by one week and a revised schedule for the spring 2021 semester.
Luther will be giving students the option of taking classes from their homes for the week of January 4th through the 10th (after the Winter Break). In-person classes will resume for every student the week of January 11th.
The Spring Semester will begin on Thursday, February 4th, as previously scheduled. Spring Break has been removed from the schedule; instead, the Spring Semester will include a Rest Day on Friday, March 5th, and a longer Easter Break, scheduled for April 2nd through the 6th. The semester will end on May 13th, one week earlier than previously planned. The date of Commencement has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 16th.
Luther defines its operations according to a system of COVID-19 indicators and alert levels [
https://www.luther.edu/being-community/protection-protocols/alert-levels/]. Since October 23rd, Luther has been at Alert Level 2 Teal: Increased Exposure and Spread. Case numbers among students and employees have remained lower than, or comparable to, those of other residential liberal arts colleges in the region. However, the college recognized the need to add preemptive protective measures, considering the spread of COVID-19 nationally and in Winneshiek County and concerns around holiday travel and gatherings.
