Starting Friday and running through New Year's Day, Winneshiek County motorists will see an increased presence of law enforcement patrols as part of an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roads and help save lives.
The Christmas and New Year's Day holiday periods are typically the time of year when there are more drunk-driving-related fatalities than during any other holiday period.
Police are advising everyone to plan ahead if you will be celebrating with an impairing substance. Call a taxi or a friend or volunteer to be the designated driver.
