Decorah School Board approves "virtual snow days"

Posted: Tue, Dec 15, 2020 10:05 AM

When classes in the Decorah School District are cancelled this school year due to bad weather or an emergency, students might not have a "snow day."  That's because the Decorah School Board has approved a Remote Learning Day Plan which will be used this school year after the first two days on which schools have been closed.

The Remote Learning Day Plan calls for students and teachers to participate in virtual activities even though it might be storming outdoors.  Decorah schools are switching to the new system because their online digital platforms offer opportunities to continue learning in the event of a school closing.

Students and teachers will still be expected to participate in classes and programs, despite being forced to stay at home because of the weather. Teachers will be actively engaged with students and will oversee the work they are doing.

As in the past with snow cancellations, remote learning days will be notified on the morning of the switch through e-mail and the other forms of school district communications.
