Study says Chickasaw County was in the top 10 in the country for residents of small counties taking trips over Thanksgiving

With the second wave of coronavirus affecting the nation, the Center for Disease Control recommended people avoid unnecessary travel during Thanksgiving week to help stop the spread of the virus. One company, AdvisorSmith, used anonymized mobile device data as the basis of a study of which counties most ignored that advice.

The new study about the "Counties That Traveled the Most During Thanksgiving" lists Chickasaw County in the top ten of counties with under 25,000 population where the CDC advice was ignored. AdvisorSmith says it learned that Chickasaw County residents took 13.5 long-distance trips per 100 residents during Thanksgiving week. It also found that Iowa as a state ranked #5 for the most residents who took trips during Thanksgiving week.

The other five NE Iowa counties did not show up in AdvisorSmith's top 50 rankings of cities in counties with small populations—although Houston County, Minnesota was ranked 21st on the list.
