The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is now releasing data on hospital capacity and bed use at a hospital-by-hospital level. Previously, the federal agency released data only on a statewide basis, but the new data is the first time individual hospital data has been released. The data includes reports from hospitals in 2,200 counties in the U.S. Previously, with only state-level data available, it was hard to identify regional hot spots, but the new data show where individual hospitals are being overwhelmed, even when a state overall isn't at crisis levels.
The University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management has developed a nationwide map, showing hospital-by-hospital data. The map can be accessed at https://carlsonschool.umn.edu/mili-misrc-covid19-tracking-project
