Collins Aerospace will lay off 29 Decorah employees as of January 2nd

Collins Aerospace has confirmed it will lay off 29 workers at its Decorah plant, effective January 2nd.  The company will also lay off 36 workers at its plant in Bellevue.

Collins Aerospace spokesperson Pam Tvrdy-Cleary says the company has been affected by a drop in orders during the COVID-19 epidemic.  "The unprecedented impact of COVID-19 has significantly reduced production volumes in commercial aviation and caused us to align our business operations with current demand," she said. Through the end of September, Collins Aerospace reported a $526 million profit--a drop of almost 60 percent from the same period in 2019.

Sources tell decorahnews.com that the 29 layoffs at the Decorah plant involve full-time employees, some with many years experience at the plant.  Affected employees will receive a separation payment, transition payment and continuation of benefits.  Laid off employees will also have access to outplacement services.

The layoffs at Decorah and Bellevue are the second round of layoffs in four months for Collins Aerospace in Iowa.  In September, the company cut 72 positions from its Cedar Rapids plant.
