November was a terrible month in NE Iowa for COVID-19 cases

In the six counties of Northeast Iowa, there were more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in November than there were in all eight previous months of the pandemic combined.

Winneshiek, Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Chickasaw and Howard counties started November with a total of 2,659 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since March.  By December 1st, that total had reached 5,432 cases--an increase of 2,773 COVID-19 cases in just one month's time.

The biggest increase in COVID cases in November came in Fayette County, where cases totaled 1,059 on Tuesday.  Fayette County had started with 446 cases on November 1st, so it had an increase of 613 cases in November.

In Winneshiek County, there were 543 cases on November 1st and 987 cases on December 1st--an increase of 444 cases.  Allamakee County added 401 COVID cases in November; Clayton County added 570 cases; Chickasaw County added 474 cases and Howard County added 271 cases.  That meant COVID-19 cases in NE Iowa increased by averages of nine to 20 cases per day in November.
