One more COVID-related death in Winneshiek County as total cases continue to rise toward 1,000

Another Winneshiek County resident with COVID-19 symptoms has died.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says Winneshiek County has now had 12 deaths due to COVID-19.  IDPH says a total of 972 county residents have been diagnosed with COVID since March, with 551 of them having recovered, but 409 still in quarantine or isolation.

Throughout the other five counties in NE Iowa, Clayton County has 1,112 total COVID-19 cases--the highest total of any of the six counties.  Fayette County now has had 1,035 COVID cases, while Chickasaw County has had 855 cases,  Allamakee County has had 807 cases and Howard County has had 557 cases.  That means the six counties have had a total of 5,338 cases since March.

In addition to the 12 deaths in Winneshiek County, 11 people in Allamakee county have died because of COVID; 10 Fayette County residents have died; nine Howard County residents; five Fayette County residents and four Chickasaw County residents.

Fayette County has the highest total of people still recovering from COVID-19, with 564 such cases; Clayton County has 532 people still recovering; Winneshiek County has 409; Allamakee County has 373 recovering; Howard County has 273 recovering; and Chickasaw County has 183 people recovering.  In all, there are 2,334 people in NE Iowa who are still recovering from COVID-19.
